Coconut oil is a fantastic natural skin moisturizer and softener, and is absorbed readily by the skin. This ability to deeply penetrate the skin also helps to enhance the effects of other healing plants, such as essential oils, because it carries these oils past the skin barrier into the body.

Coconut oil is also soothing and anti-inflammatory, and has anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties. It contains a high amount of lauric acid, which is known to be anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-oxidant. It is also full of other nutrients, such as Vitamin E, which is also a natural anti-oxidant. This means coconut oil can be effective in repairing skin and other tissue damage to keep the body looking and feeling fresh and healthy.

Coconut oil comes from the fruit of the coconut tree (Cocos nucifera), a tall palm tree native to tropical Asia. It’s a member of the Arecaceae botanical family, which it shares with the numerous other palm species that can be seen adorning white sand beaches and towering over small villages throughout the tropics.

In places influenced by Polynesian culture, such as some of the Indonesian islands, the coconut tree is known as the Tree of Life because a tree planted at birth will serve a person with thousands of uses throughout his or her lifetime. Every part of the plant is used, from its roots, trunk, branches, and leaves, through to its fruit’s seeds, husk, meat, water, milk and, yes, oil.

At Blue Stone Botanicals, we use Indonesian-grown coconut oil as a key component of many of our natural health items. This means that not only is the coconut oil used in our natural health items pure and natural, but it is also truly of the islands. When you use one of our natural health items, you will be joining the long tradition of islanders who make the ‘Tree of Life’ an important part of their healthy lifestyles.
